Privacy Policy

Tee Cabin is an app for small groups of friends (“crews”) to organise rounds of golf, chat, and share photos. This policy describes exactly what the app stores and why.
What we collect
Everything below is data you or your crewmates type into the app. Tee Cabin has no analytics, no advertising, no third-party trackers, and no payment processing.
- Email address
- It is your login, and the only way to reset your password. From you, at sign-up.
- Password
- Signing you in. Stored only as a salted hash, so nobody, including us, can read it. From you, at sign-up.
- Display name and initials
- So your crew knows who wrote a message. You choose it when you sign up, and you can change it at any time from your profile. From you.
- Profile photo (optional)
- Shown beside your messages. From you.
- Messages
- The crew chat. From you.
- Photos
- The crew’s shared albums. From you.
- Rounds, tee times, course names, who claimed which seat
- Organising a foursome. From you and your crew.
- Crew names and invite codes
- Membership. From you.
- Failed invite-code attempts
- Rate limiting, so nobody can guess their way into a stranger’s crew. Retained one hour. Recorded automatically.
- Reports and blocks
- Keeping the app usable. A report records what was reported and by whom. From you.
Location
Only for the course list, only when you ask, and only roughly.
When you open the course picker to post a round, the app asks for your location. If you allow it, your position is rounded to about 11 kilometres, which is enough to know you are near Boston and not enough to know your street. It is then sent to our database to show the courses nearest you as the default list, and to rank your searches so nearby courses appear first.
- We never store it. It orders the course list for that one screen and is then discarded.
- It never filters. Courses far away are still findable by typing more of the name, because you might be planning a trip.
- Refusing costs you nothing. The search works exactly as before, ranked by name.
- The app never tracks you in the background, and never reads your location unless the course picker is open.
Courses themselves come from a public list derived from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL). Tapping “Book on course site” opens that course’s own website in your browser; what you do there is between you and them.
Photos, and the data hidden inside them
A photo’s hidden metadata is removed on your phone, before the photo is uploaded.
A camera writes more than a picture into a photo file. It writes the GPS coordinates of the spot it was taken, the camera and lens, and the exact time. A photo taken at your house carries your home address inside it, and if that file reached the crew’s album, so would your address, without you ever choosing to share it.
Tee Cabin strips that out on your device, before the file is sent. What reaches the crew is the picture and nothing else. The one thing kept is the orientation flag, and only so that portrait photos are not shown lying on their side.
We therefore never receive, store, or share the place a photo was taken.
Who can see it
Only the crews you belong to. This is enforced by the database itself, not by the app: every message, photo, round and roster row is readable only by members of the crew it belongs to. Being signed in is not enough. You must have created a crew or redeemed its invite code. Members of one crew cannot read another crew’s content, and a person who has joined no crew can read nothing at all.
If you block someone, you stop seeing everything they post. Blocking is one-directional and silent: the person you block is not told, and their view of the app does not change.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with anyone except the providers listed below, and we do not use it to train anything.
Who processes it
Tee Cabin stores data with Supabase (Postgres, authentication, file storage and realtime messaging), which acts as our data processor. See Supabase’s privacy policy at supabase.com/privacy. Data is held on Supabase’s infrastructure.
When you open a round, the app asks Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) for the forecast at that golf course’s coordinates. It sends the course’s location and the tee time. It does not send your location, your name, or anything about you, and Open-Meteo cannot tell one Tee Cabin user from another. Your own approximate location, if you allow it, goes only to our own database to sort the course list, and is never stored (see Location above).
How long we keep it
Until you delete it.
- Delete your account at any time, inside the app: tap your photo in the top-right corner of any screen to open your profile, then Delete account. (It is also offered on the screen you land on before you have joined a crew.) This is immediate and permanent. Your account, profile, messages, photos and rounds are deleted.
- A crew you shared with other people continues without you. The messages they wrote are theirs, not yours, and remain.
- A crew you were the last member of is deleted entirely, along with everything in it.
- Failed invite-code attempts are discarded after one hour.
There is no grace period and no undo. If you would rather we did it for you, or you cannot sign in, write to support@teecabin.app.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your data. Deletion is built into the app (above). For anything else, write to support@teecabin.app and we will respond within 30 days. If you are in the EEA or UK, you may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Tee Cabin is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, write to support@teecabin.app and we will delete it.
Security
Passwords are hashed. All traffic is encrypted in transit. Access to crew content is enforced in the database by row-level security, so a bug in the app cannot expose one crew’s chat to another. No system is perfect; if you find a problem, please write to support@teecabin.app rather than disclosing it publicly, and we will fix it.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date above and notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
